Categories and Features of Unions

A union is a kind of pipe fitting that can be easily installed and disassembled. 

 

Unions are composed of three parts, that is, nuts, cloud heads and butt joints. The union is a kind of pipe fitting that forged with steel rods or steel ingots. According to different joint methods, unions can be classified into socket welded unions and threaded unions. 

 

With socket welded unions, pipelines are inserted into the fittings and welded to it. With threaded unions, pipelines are screwed into fitting. The main manufacture standards for unions are ASME B16.11 and MSS SP 83. 

 

There are two kinds of socket welded unions. One is straight type, the other is reducing type.

Socket weld unions are composed of sockets, bellmouths and socket welded slots. The socket and the bellmouth are placed on both sides of a socket welded union. This kind of design is convenient for operation. Socket welded unions are be widely applied to pipelines with different diameters, valves and water gauges. SW unions are boast of great leakage-proof capacity. Unions own a promising market. 

 

Threaded unions are commonly used in industrial construction and modern life. Threaded unions make is easier for the connection of pipelines. It is also easy to disassemble and change the old-fashioned unions. All these lead to tremendous savings in the cost of pipeline connection. 

 

Industrial threaded unions are generally made of metals, which can withstand high pressures. Materials for these unions are carbon steels, stainless steels, alloy steels, brass, etc. At the same time, residential threaded unions are made of PC, PVC, PE and other materials. 

 

Threaded unions have stable performance and can get rid of the influences of workers’ capacity. They are applicable in many situations, even in small places where steel bars gathered. There are almost no limitations to the use of unions.
