General Characteristics of Pipe Tees

A pipe tee, just like what it is called, has three mouths: one entrance, two exits or two entrances and one exit. It is a kind of pipe fittings used in the junction of three same or different pipes. There are T-shape tees, Y-shape tees, equal tees and reducing tees. The main function of pipe tees is changing flow directions of fluids.

 

Classified by materials, pipe tees have metallic and nonmetallic ones. There are carbon steel tees, stainless steel tees, alloy steel tees and other kinds of metallic tees. Threaded tees are made according to the standard for malleable cast iron, whose national standard is GB/12459-2005. There are PVC, UPVC, PPR and other nonmetallic materials for tees. 

 

According to the connection mode, pipe tees can be divided into clip-on style tee and threaded tee. 

 

In terms of shapes, tees are similar to Chinese characters “人”or “丁”. 

 

A metallic pipe tee has a main pipe, whose one side is the branch one perpendicular to and connected with the main pipe. There is a valve at the junction corner of the exits of main and branch pipes.   

 

Pipe tees are usually used to change the running direction of fluids. They can be applied to water pipelines, oil pipelines or pipelines that transmitting chemical fluids. Pipeline Tees are widely used in fields like medicine, water conservation (water-saving irrigation, water supply and drainage), energy (oil, gas, and nuke) , architecture, etc.
