What Is Pipe Gasket?
A pipe gasket is a sealing device that ensures a secure, leak-free connection between pipe components like flanges or couplings. It's usually made from flexible materials like rubber, silicone, or synthetic compounds. The pipe gasket fits between the mating surfaces of pipes, flanges, or fittings, and when compressed, it creates a tight seal. This seal prevents the leakage of fluids or gases and safeguards the system's integrity.
Types of Pipe Gaskets
Ring Gasket: Ring gaskets, often known as RTJ (Ring Type Joint) gaskets, are metallic gaskets with an octagonal or oval shape designed to fit inside flange grooves.
Spiral Wound Gasket: These gaskets are made of a V or W-shaped metal strip wound with a filler material (typically graphite or PTFE). They are resilient and suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.
Soft Cut Gasket: Soft cut gaskets, crafted from materials like rubber, silicone, or neoprene, are used in low-pressure situations and for sealing non-metallic pipes.
Metal Jacketed Gasket: These gaskets consist of a soft filler material enclosed in a metal jacket, combining the flexibility of soft gaskets with the durability of metallic ones.
