The Commonly Used Pipe Fittings (Part One)

Do you know the commonly used pipe fittings? What are the characteristics of the pipe fittings?
Pipe fittings are parts connecting pipes to form pipelines. Pipe fittings cover a wide range, and the common ones are pipe unions, pipe couplings, pipe sleeves, hose clamps, pipe tees, flanges, etc. What are these pipe fittings' applications? How do we classify them? I hope this article will help you know more about the knowledge of the commonly used pipe fittings.
Pipe Unions
Pipe unions are designed with three-dimensional polygons and threads. A pipe union consists of three parts: a nut, a female end and a male end. When the female and male ends are joined, the nut seals the joint by pressing the two ends tightly together.
Pipe Couplings
Pipe couplings are often used in the industrial pipe connections; pipe couplings are short tubes which connect two tubes.
Connection ends of pipe couplings can be divided into threaded connections and welded connections; pipe couplings' materials include carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel.
Cold Drawn Tees
Tees are mainly used to change directions of fluid and are used at the pipes where fluid of the main pipeline needs to be diverted. Tees can be classified based on the diameters. Tees are made of carbon steel, cast steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum alloy, plastic, pvc and other materials.
Elbows
Elbows are pipe fittings which are used to change directions of pipes in the piping system. The commonly used three types of elbows are 45 degree elbows, 90 degree elbows and 180 degree elbow according to angles. In addition, 60 degree or other degree elbows are also available due to engineering requirements. Elbows are made of cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, malleable cast iron, carbon steel, nonferrous metals and plastic. Pipes and elbows are connected by direct welding connections(the most common way), hot melting connections, electric melting connections, threaded connections, socket connections, etc. Elbows can be divided into welding elbows, stamping elbows, casting elbows and butt welding elbows based on the production technology, and they are mainly applied to oil, gas and fluid transportation.
Reducers
Reducers are one of the chemical pipe fittings, which are used to connect two pipes with different diameters. Reducers are divided into concentric reducers and eccentric reducers.
Reducing Elbows
Reducing elbows can change the pipelines' diameters when the pipelines need to make a 90 degree turn. Reducing elbows include stamping reducing elbows, welding reducing elbows, etc., and they can be classified into carbon steel elbows, stainless steel elbows, alloy steel elbows, etc.
Flanges
Flanges are components which are used for connecting different pipes at the pipe ends or at entrances & ends of equipment. Flanges can be classified into integral flanges, threaded flanges, slip on welding plate flanges, welding neck flanges, blind flanges, etc.
